subject: San Juan 21 and 23 hull weights

I've read that the hull weights of the San Juan's can be over by as much as 500-1000 Lbs in the 21's and 23's.

I'm shopping for one but will be keeping it in a lift and will need to know the weight. As I shop around, is there a simple way to identify the "heavy weight" San Juan's short of using a set of scales?

Are there tell tale anomalies in the hull or was it a particular range of years that were effected?
