I leave the boat swinging on a mooring all season. The keel is left down and locked with the pin and the cable slack. I haven't seen any reason not to do this and it's much more stable when you walk about the deck while at anchor. The winch is only used at haul out and launch, to raise the keel to get on and off the trailer and then slack again.DAvid
