Hi Dean,You could probably change to a masthead forestay on your SJ. Structurally there shouldn't be any problems if you secure it correctly. But that being said, I'm not sure its such a great idea. Changing to a masthead forestay and using the big Catalina genoa would make a boat that would reach well, but it would totally mess up the balance of the boat going upwind, would prevent you from being able to de-power effectively in high winds, and would hurt the resale value of your SJ. You'd probably be better off selling the Cat. sail on the internet and then using the money to try and pick up a used SJ sail.
