I had a similar problem in Florida. Would the tag office issue you some sort of document that would let law enforcement know that you are hauling the trailer to a weigh station for the purpose of registering it?

My tag office offered to do that for me. However, we finally found the original registration (had sat in a yard for 7 years) and I didn't have to do it.
