Kevin,
I know you asked this question several days ago--sorry I'm late with this. I've found our SJ21 to be very trailerable, easy to set-up and take down. I keep ours on the trailer (too cheap to rent a slip, and want to have the option to sail different lakes), sail about 32-35 times a year (season in Northern Indiana is roughly mid-March through early November), and can set-up in 15-20 minutes with the help of 1 novice, or 25 minutes alone. Take-down (is there a better term?!) is about the same. As for whether or not it is large enough for a family, I guess that depends on your family's space requirements! The most I've overnighted with was a total of 3 persons, but we often daysail with 5-6. Best wishes!
