subject:
spreader length and shroud length relationship

Okay.

I bought a used 130 genoa, installed some hardware, and I love using it. But now I see why people cut their spreaders down. Mine are 29", and I never had problems with the standard jib, but now do.

So my question is: if I take a few inches (well, 4" to be exact) off the spreader length, how much will that alter the length of the shroud? I bought new standing rigging last year and don't want to have to replace the upper shrouds!

I know this shouldn't be a problem to figure out, but I only got as far as half a year of trig in high school, and that was in 1970, and I was a fine arts major, so I can't quite grok the math process needed to figure it out.

Thanks in advance,

Carlos #2
