Thanks for the ideas on spreaders

Roy:

Great minds think alike. That's exactly what I'll do. As I was sailing today I was looking at the sheeted-in genoa and thought that 2" off would be a good starting point, and appears to give me lots more genoa room for pulling that tarp in tight.

Thanks for all the ideas from everyone. Much appreciated. Who woulda thunk that shortening the spreaders would engender so much discussion.

In any case I probably won't do anything until I take the boat from the slip in October. I love having a slip, and the thought of dropping the mast again, although not difficult, makes me just want to be sailing I spent last night on the boat and aside from the keel winch taking a chunk of skin off my knee I enjoyed it. Of course now I'm hankering for a bigger boat. Sigh.

"How about measure ONCE, cut TWICE.

Try cutting the spreaders from 29" to 27" & trying that first.

If you still have room on the turnbuckes, then cut the additional 2".

Last thing you want to do is find out your math or measurements were incorrect and not be able to go sailing till you get the shrouds shortened.

Cutting the spreaders is easy and inexpensive. Getting new turnbuckles put on shrouds is a lot more $$$.
