Here are some modifications I have made to my SJ-21 flip up rudder. My little bonnet with a rope holds the rudder in the up position far better then the bunji cords
Also, note in the above photo how I mounted my short shaft 1973 2 HP Evenrude off center of the motor bracket. This gained me about 3-5 inches. I would NOT recommend a 2 HP in inclement weather --- really struggles against the wind. But it is 1/3 the weight of my Mercury 4.5
Now, where did the nut/bolt go ? I covered it with bondo, and faired it. Now the bunji cord does not get caught when flipping the rudder up.
