I have done exactly the Admiral recommends on a number of vehicles with great results ( a 4 cyl Isuzu Trooper, 6 cyl Chrysler Mini Van and even the V8 Expedition.)

NOT doing this cost me an input shaft bearing in my Mazda Pickup truck with the manuual 5 speed with OD
