subject:
Hull deformation above waterline in line with chainplate/bul

Well, looks like there is no one near me, so I'm going to have to do this the hard way. 2405 was not in the condition I had hoped, but I bought her anyway. She's quite a lot better than many I saw, and I already had the long drive invested.

I'm hoping I can get some advice on the single issue that has me concerned, the rest being either totally cosmetic or just very minor maintenance.

On the portside hull there are a couple of very shallow, vertically-oriented waves directly in line with the chainplate. The area is a couple feet high and about a foot wide. I can see that the port chainplate has leaked by the stains on the bulkhead, but the chain plate does not appear to have lifted above the deck and the bulkhead appears mostly solid, with some very slight rotting at the very bottom. The deck seems completely solid.

There were a few other SJ21's in the yard where I got this one and they all had the same issue on one or both sides. They have all been raced at one time or another.

Is this an "ignore it and be happy" thing, or a "you'd better get into that" thing? I know I am going to need to do something about the chainplate leaking and take a hard look at the balsa core in that area when I do it, but I'm not sure what else, if anything, those waves in the hull should be telling me.

Thanks in advance.
