Mike, there are probably a lot of options out there for hatches and there are quite a few that I'm sure would work for you. The bigger question for you is probably where to put the hatch. The standard place to put the deck hatch on the MK I is on the lower forward deck. However, my MKI is one of the only boats I've seen with the hatch on the upper deck just in front of the mast and I really like it there. It's a much dryer place for a hatch, is much easier for an adult to get to, is a good spot to drop your spinnaker, and you can open it and see the stars when you are sleeping in the v-birth. I'm not sure why the standard location is on the forward deck, I don't see any advantages having it there.P.S. I hope your are planning on making it down to Canyon Ferry next spring for the SJ North Americans. It should be a lot of fun and you could meet all of us crazy blokes.
