I have been the only SJ 21 being sailed on the Hudson River for many years. So I cannot sail one design if I wanted to.

But from what I can see is that the modifications which were already allowed did nothing to improve the one design fleet. You have added travelers, adjustable backstays, various versions of keel gaskets & fairings.

Each addition made it a requirement for ALL in the fleet to add them. This in itself hurts the concept of One Design where money was not supposed to be a big factor.

I have watched the various local PHRF fleets fall appart as some boats have super high tech sails where others have standard dacron sails. Others purchased lower & lower PHRF # boats --- knowing full well, but not admiting, that there is a bias to the lower # boats.

If someone wants to "buy" a trophy, they will.

I enjoy this website mostly for maintenance tips.
