subject:Communication is the problem & solution
In this day and age of electronic inter-connectivity, we have the option to speak, type, chat, and share video across the country through our computers. It is my belief that the National Association should have everything managed through a central website that has these functional capabilities. Jim's already built the 'free for all, or maintenance tips discussion' section which is open both members and non-members alike. Here are some others that the SJ21 association SHOULD provide to members.1. Online request for documentation, which is answered electronically.
2. Online chat/skype voice functionality that allows for conference calls to discuss issues like this & prevent issues like ruddergate from happening.
3. Class News page (already being put together by Cal Guthrie in the Jibsheet) done electronically, which would cut costs significantly while bringing the communication to more people.
4. Sign-out/shipping info. request for all class items.
5. And so on, depending on what the class wants to put up.Since this communication isn't a 'one-design' issue, it surprises me that we haven't already done this. I can't think of another class that is as far behind as we are. Can you guys/gals even imagine where this class would be without Jim's help? Someone really needs to take action on this, build a central site (like Fleet 1's or i550.org, or something), utilizing the tools Jim's already built, and adding in the above functionality. I could help, but I'm not savvy enough to do it myself.
