Sailing near Richland, WA & Comments on the Class

Anyone do much sailing out in the desert near Richland, WA? Might be permanently heading up that way soon and am curious about sailing, regatta's and such.

In regards to the class discussion, I understand that some of you have been very successful in this class, and fortunate enough to be able to travel to most of its events, often within the same year. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the majority of SJ21 owner's. In fact, most new SJ21 sailors are not close to a fleet and will meet few, if any, other SJ21's during their ownership. Hence, "face-to-face" discussions are not an option for these new sailors. If we want to show them how great this class is, then we have to get them out sailing in our big regatta's under one-design rules. In short, WE have to go to THEM, not the other way around. The best, most economical way I can see to do that is to create an attractive, user-friendly, and just better national website, with the ability to chat (with or without video), current class reg's, etc. Plus it should include a map of all SJ21 sailors, so that these new sailors can see who is close. Or, perhaps, a "big brot her/sister" can be designated nearby that can help them through the first year of ownership. I guarantee that would get people to join the National Organization, and get the class rocking again. That is the response the first comments were intended to generate (I think).

Take care.
