For Sale: 1977 San Juan 21 Mk II
1977 San Juan 21 Mk II with main and jib, trailer, NO MOTOR.
Sails are older but clean, main has two sets of reef points and slugs for mast track. Like new boom cover. Jib is 110 % (I think) and has serviceable cover. Trailer is overbuilt, recently rewired, painted steel with non-structural rust in places. 2 inch ball. Has fenders stout enough to stand on.
Boat has four recently reupholstered cushions, bow pulpit, rigged for spinnaker (not included), knot meter and wet compass mounted in rear bulkhead. Boat recently rewired.
Some gelcoat damage in cockpit, but all surfaces are strong and solid. Looks good from fifty feet. All ports and the hatch leak badly and need resealing. Due to water incursion, two plywood bulkheads are starting to delaminate, but are good for another season or more. Boat recently power washed inside and out, but inside needs some bleach. NO MOTOR.
Some fenders, lines, and an anchor included. This boat could be sailed today, or prettied up.
I want to sell it quickly, as another boat is soon to be purchased, so I am asking only $700.

1976 San Juan 21 Mark 1, Sail Number 1868, Joyride is for sail
This is a special boat. Prepared in 1994 by Sid Rousseau to be a competitive All-Sails contender. Maintained since to a very high standard. This boat has won many regattas in the Midwest, several Midwest Series Championships, and placed second in the North Americans. All she needs is to be pointed in the right direction and she can win. I am retiring this summer and I want to get myself a larger boat to be my condo at the lake.
Competitive racing sails; One Kerr main (two years old), One North main (Won the 1993 NA Working Sails and still a great sail), Two Kerr 130s (one two years, one older), Two year old Jib, Two spinnakers (one four years the other older, both still fast). A selection of older sails good for cruising. With all the sails it was easy to keep the faster ones fresh.
Mid cockpit traveler, companionway control bridge (a wonderfully artistic piece of molded stainless steel), 2 speed Lewmar wenches mounted on the cabin top (an overkill but neat anyway), Black Magic Genoa fairlead blocks (best money I spent). Two spinnaker poles. Two Spinlock Halyard clutches.
All the sheets and halyards are top grade, lightweight and in good shape.

This is definitely a project boat. It has had water inside for quite some time, and I estimate it has 30-50% of the cabin top that is soft (needs re-cored.) The hull looks good, and the keel was working when last used. Mast and rudder are there and appear in good condition. Sails are there but old....Rigging appears original. Boat is white, with a black stripe - she sits on a rusty (but appears serviceable) Fleet Captain trailer. There is a diamond under there - but it will take some significant polishing to make her shine again.
This boat needs to move in the next month or so.....so offers will be considered...(It's in North Carolina)

1971 San Juan for sale. $2700
1971 Mark I San Juan 21, in Salina, Kansas.
Structurally sound, cosmetically challenged. Cabin top has been rebuilt with hi-density foam core except under the mast, where high-density polyethylene (klegecell) was used. The interior is unfinished fiberglass. I purchased from a local who purchased it in 1974, and sailed it at a local lake. I have raced it at Cheney from about 2000 2003 with my daughter, and cruised it at Milford Lake last year, where it was kept in a slip. My daughter went to college, and now the boat is for sale coincidence? I think not!
The following is a rough outline of the upgrades since I purchased the boat from the previous owner in 1998.
1998
Replaced cabin top core from inside with the boat upside down.
Remounted bow pulpit, all cabin top hardware new.
Installed new handrails.
Jib sheets, main sheets replaced.
Installed a mast-step plate for attaching turning blocks.
1999
Jib and Main halyards replaced with 5/16 Sta Set X
New Jib halyard shackle.
2000
New keel brake winch and cable installed close enough to the companion way to avoid having to go below decks to raise or lower keel.
New adjustable split backstay
New harken blocks for all cunningham and boomvang.
New jib cleats and fairleads
New mid-boom mainsheet blocks and traveler installed.
New outhaul installed.
Purchased a new heavy duty whisker pole.
2001
New left and right upper shrouds replaced.
Replaced heavy original rudder with a used early Ben Sanders made rudder.
Installed Forespar tillerbox
Purchased new Kerr main and jib.
2002
Purchased used genoa (well worn), and used North Spinnaker (pretty good shape)
Replaced left and right lower shrouds.
2003
Windy regatta. Replaced boom gooseneck with fixed Dwyer model, and rudder hardware with J24 stock.
Installed access plates in cockpit walls for access to small storage areas.
Installed access plate to cockpit seat for large storage area.
Purchased used trailer to replace the old one that carried the boat too high.
2004
Installed reefing lines and hardware.
Painted the bottom with standard anti-fouling paint.
Purchased new spinnaker control lines, sheets. When I bought the boat it came with a wooden spinnaker pole that really looks nice, though I wouldnt use it in the heavy air.

San Juan 21's for sale
I have two San Juan 21 Mark ones for sale. They are sail number #440 (SOLD!!!) and #589.
Number #440 (SOLD!!!) is white with blue non-skid and has the original main sail and working jib and sits on a Chaulkens trailor with no motor. This boat is in totally stock condition except for a new four to one adjstible backstay. All of the hardware is the originall from the factory and there are no soft spots in the deck or transom. This is a very nice boat and I am asking $2800.00 for it.
#589 (SOLD!!!) is Yellow with a white deck and dark windows. This boat is totally rigged for serious racing in the working class division. New Kerr main and jib. Vectran running rigging. Remoted sixteen to one backstay adjuster. Head knocker mainsheet system. Everything led back to cockpit. Alumimun keel gasket. Fiberglass keel fairng. Faired keel. Harken winches. All new Harken cleats. All control lines are color coded. Vacumm bagged fiberglass racing rudder and tiller. Anchor and line. L.E.D. trailor lights. new trailer tires. Cabin:
This boat has been refurbished over the last 5 years. Very good shape. All deck hardware and teak has been removed, refinished, and reseated in epoxy. The updated interior has new custom V-berth cushions, new windows, wall carpeting, and halogen lighting. VHF radio (w/ mast antenna) has been positioned for easy cabin/cockpit access. The electrical system was replaced with a lighted switch station, and a 12volt power port.
Cockpit:
All lines lead aft to the cockpit. This includes all halyards, sheets, boomvang, jib lowering and a jiffy reefing system. Also includes knotmeter, 2 tillers (one shorter for extra seating) and a tiller extender.
Sails:
Fair condition Main (w/ one reefing point), Jib, and newer Genoa 125%
Motor:
The boat also includes 4-stroke 5hp long shaft Honda outboard in excellent condition. The motor has an external 5-gallon gas tank and an alternator that charges the 12volt deep cycle battery.

This boat had a complete refurbrishing last year; the cabin was gutted out, all deck fittings removed, checked for water damage - all was A1. No water damage. All deck fittings replaced were stainless. Cabin, hull sides covered with marine cloth; all new cushions. All wiring was replaced thruout the boat; new cabin lights and elecrtic fuse panels..New Dutton-Lainson Brake winch and c/b cable installed. Waterproof vents installed on cabin deck eliminating moisture and milldew.
Trailer..completly sandblasted and repainted. All new lights. New 2" ball hitch, new bearing seals. Tires and mounted spare wheel bunks in good condition.
Rigging...all halyard and sheets replaced, new blocks on main. Standing rigging in good condition. Jel batteries, compass, kick up rudder.
Sails....all in good condition. Jib, Main, Genoa, spinniker.
Motor Evanrude 4.5 long shaft; fwd & rev.gear; never let me down

Condition: Hull, sails and standing rigging are sound. A few paint scratches and dings on hull - no delam, never left in water for long. Motor ran well two years ago but not used since may need tune-up now. Trailer tires have good tread but are old and should be replaced soon. $2000.
